Frequently Asked Questions

  • Wear a t-shirt or rash guard and athletic shorts. Shoes are not used on the mat, and can be left in cubby-holes beside mat.

  • First, if you can use a BJJ Gi if that is what you have. Any Gi will work as long as it is Double Weave material. A Karate Gi will not last. We do have a few JudoGi to borrow for your first few classes.

  • The first class is free. If you want to join us to see how class is, please do!

Judo Gi Sizing

1. The first and most important aspect is the size of the gi. You should choose a gi that fits your body type and height. A judo gi that is too small can restrict movement during training, while a gi that is too big can act as a distraction and potentially pose a safety hazard during matches.

2. The jacket should fit comfortably, with no excessive bunching or pulling in any areas. The sleeves should come down to the wrist bone, and the collar should fit snugly, but not too tight around the neck.

3. The pants should fit snugly around the waist, with the length of the pants coming down to the ankle.

4. Belts should be tied tightly, but not so tight that they restrict breathing or movement.
